By changing the mechanical layout between the TOOL HIVE and the automatic tool changer of the machining center, the overall length of the TOOL HIVE is smaller than the previous system design. This reduces the amount of floor space required for the rear part of the machine. The new shifter mechanism has reduced tool waiting time by its ability to position the tool to be used after the next tool. As a result, non-cutting-time is minimized by reducing waiting time when tools are changed which have individual short machining cycle times.
